The Finnish bird population is currently estimated at 350,000–500,000 pairs. Grouse are found throughout Finland, but larger numbers are usually found in the boreal forest areas of Central Finland.

Hunting grouse and grouse is a very enjoyable bird hunt. Grouse is one of the most sought-after game birds in the world. We have over 20,000 hectares of hunting grounds for these fine birds. We can also hunt other bird species, as well as beavers and hares.

Hunting white-tailed deer near game fields and feeding grounds is an effective form of hunting. It also enables selection that benefits systematic population management. Deer can be hunted, for example, with a hunting bow, which requires good advance planning.

White-tailed deer are also hunted using a hound.

The capercaillie is our most hunted bird and the second most hunted game bird. It is hunted either with a barking, standing or chasing bird dog, or without a dog, looking for birds fleeing from the ground.

Capercaillie are also hunted by hunting from a fall game bird, often using decoys.

The black grouse is our most valued poultry bird, and the great black grouse is the dream catch of most people. In its most traditional form, hunting is done with the help of a barking bird dog. Sneaking up on a grouse requires skill, as the bird will flee at the slightest rustle. Black rouse can also be caught by hunting and looking for birds that are fleeing.

The hazel grouse is traditionally hunted with a whistle. The hunter goes to a dense mixed forest or its edge and whistles calmly and without moving. An accurate hazel grouse often comes out of its territory whistling and darting from branch to branch to check on its competitor. With luck, it will fly close enough to be caught in the shooting range.

Willow grouse are a prized prey even when hunting with bird dogs. Most willow grouse are caught in Lapland. The hunt is usually done with a standing or chasing dog. Willow grouse can be caught without a dog, walking with a shotgun.
